The wines:
Leasingham Classic Clare Shiraz 2006 (Clare Valley, SA)
3 Gold, 6 Silver, 5 Bronze Medals
'Sumptuous and slightly minty, this polished Clare shiraz reveals a
meaty, rather rustic bouquet whose dark aromas of plums and berries
reveal leathery undertones and chocolatey, smoked oyster oak
influences. It's beautifully ripened, dark and briary, presenting a
deeply layered presence of spicy fruit tightly knit with tight-grained
French oak and underpinned by firm, drying tannins.' (18.6/95, YTD
2018-2026) Jeremy Oliver
'Crimson; a surprisingly refined though intense and long palate driven
by blackberry fruit; the tannins and oak support vehicles, the cork a
potential roadside bomb. Cork.' 14% alc. Rating 94 Drink 2016 $55 James Halliday
Leasingham Classic Clare Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 (Clare Valley, SA)
4 Gold, 3 Silver, 8 Bronze Medals
A traditional long-term Clare cabernet whose deep aromas of dark plums,
berries and cedar/vanilla oak are backed by dusty, slightly leafy
suggestions of dried herbs and undertones of baked earth. It's
astringent and drying, delivering a profound length of dark, deeply
layered fruit and mature enough to finish quite savoury, with a mineral
aspect. (18.6/95, YTD 2025-2035) Jeremy Oliver
Chateau Reynella Basket Pressed Shiraz 2007 (McLaren Vale, SA)
6 Trophies, 10 Gold, 3 Silver, 6 Bronze Medals
Big, thick and quite blocky full flavoured red with lashings
of everything - fruit, oak, tannns, the lot. If you prefer your reds to have
serious balls, this Shiraz is absolutely made for you.
Chateau Reynella Basket Pressed Cabernet 2006 (McLaren Vale, SA)
2 Trophies, 1 Gold, 2 Silver, 4 Bronze Medals
A beautifully ripened, even and sumptuous wine - as good as McLaren
Vale cabernet ever gets. Wild and heady, spicy and meaty, its summer
pudding-like bouquet of blueberries, violet, cassis, blackberries and
dark plums is knit with cedar/vanilla oak. Sumptuously and lavishly
fruited, its genuinely ripe palate is underpinned by drying, powdery
tannin, finishing with a persistent depth of flavour.(18.5/94, YTD
2018-2026) Jeremy Oliver
A very expressive wine, with cedar, black olive, cassis and seamless
oak handling; full-bodied with nerve and drive, the core of fruit
handles the firm texture and structure of the wine with ease; lovely
precision. Cork. 14% alc. Rating 95 Drink 2020 $54 James Halliday
