Gruner Veltliner (Gruner for short) is a peculiar phenomenon, in that whilst it is the most planted wine grape in Austria, it has, up until recently, had little exposure to the rest of the world. Unusual because Gruner, when done well, manages to majically combine acidity with power in a format that kills the average Pinot Gris and is comparable more to a cross between Dry German Riesling and White Burgundy. A delicious food wine, Gruner is also built for ageing, with rapier like acidity cleansing the back palate. This is an excellent example from Martin Nigl at a very practical price.
