The label explains that people convicted under this particular Act were transported to Australia for their "despicable crimes". It continues, tongue-in-cheek: If our old convict ancestors know what we do now, they would surly enjoy a drop or two or three!
St Hallett Poacher's Blend is very fruity with tones of citrus, pineapple, passionfruit and melon, but with a nice, refreshing, dry finish.
Next, we have the family owned and operated Buller Black Dog Creek Cab Merlot from the King Valley in Victoria. The Buller family dates back to the 1800s too, I wonder if there are any convict connections there? Their Black Dog Creek Cabernet Merlot has won great commendation in the Wine Style Asia awards, plus Bronze medal in the Rutherglen Wine Show. A sort mellow red full of black berries flavour with a great finish.
Started by the famous Geoff Merrill, Cockatoo Ridge has blossomed into a brand that is well sort after for those looking for a wine packed with value for money. Finally the ever popular McWilliams Select Shiraz Merlot, another family owned and operated winery. McWilliams is a great example of the "new" generation of Australian winemakers who are making the "Old World" wine makers take notice of their innovative techniques as well as market penetration.
