An
exhilarating Cabernet wine assembled from parcels of fruit selected on
the basis flavour and affinity. Lost Block has been stylistically
fashioned to remain true to the promise of fruit laden, vital and
approachable Cabernet Sauvignon. "A spicy wine with the typical herb and
leaf flavours of cabernet and a soft palate full of black fruits. A
terrific drink with olives, salami and crusty bread!" -Donna Hay
Magazine, "Very typically cabernet with its black berry fruit characters
balanced by just enough dry tannin. A cabernet revival needs more wines
like this!" -Herald Sun
Parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon are sourced
from two premium winegrowing areas, the Frankland River and McLaren
Vale. The clever design by mother nature of unique microclimes and
terroirs impart distinctive regional characteristics to the noble
Cabernet grape. Aromatic bramble and blueberry expressions of West
Australia are juxtaposed against the substantive, chocolate tannins of
South Australia's McLaren Vale. Skillfully vinified and assembled by the
Tyrrell winemaking team at the Pokolbin wineworks, Lost Block is an
essentially fruit driven Cabernet wine. The fully integrated tannins are
tamed after a spell of maturation in two to three year old French oak
barriques. Approx 14.5%
TASTING NOTES
A vibrant
purple in colour. Its shows a lifted nose of dark berry cassis fruit,
with some clove spice. The palate shows fresh fruit driven flavours,
which are balanced by persistent velvety tannins. Perfect as aperitif or
an accompaniment to pasta, pizza and red meat dishes.
"There's
a terrific mouthful of flavour here for a modest sum, absolutely pure,
ripe-berry/ cassis varietal flavour with tonnes of juicy mid-palate
fruit. Luscious fruit, bountiful soft tannins and convincing red-wine
structure put it streets ahead of most wines at the price!" -Canberra
Times, "This is a youthful, densely coloured Australian red with earthy,
spicy, savoury elements adding complexity to its rich, ripe,
blackcurrant-like flavours!" -Cuisine
